VOLUNTEER ACTION DAYS
Our 2024 Spring volunteer programme is underway. We have planted trees by the river, for the forest school, on the Green Highway and by Yeoman Way.
Do join us.
Many thanks to all those who have contributed. The next set of work with Babergh is being planned.
We are currently continuing work for Benton End.
Working at Dairy Farm (e.g. tree planting and looking after previously planted trees) will continue on alternate Wednesdays - see section below for details.
We are looking into a plan for some tidying up work on the river walk that will need Babergh approval.
Work preparing a wildflower meadow with Babergh on the land at the McCarthy Stone development is coming up in May - planned for Saturday the 11th.
Sessions usually start at 10 am and end around 12.30 - 1pm
‘I really enjoyed my first day volunteering. So good to be out doing something for the environment - with such friendly people!’
FARM VOLUNTEERING
We are helping James Buckle, a local farmer and landowner with various environmental improvement projects on Dairy Farm e.g. looking after extensive areas of trees planted (a mix of various species) and regenerating ponds. This helps to provide for more carbon capture and boost biodiversity in slowly transforming back to a rural landscape that our forebears would have recognised. The Buckle family has been engaged in nature restoration on the farm for over forty years.
This is part of HEAT’s wish to engage with the local farming community.
The next volunteer session at Dairy Farm will be on 17th April 2024 (3rd April cancelled). Work includes checking trees in tubes, clearing around ponds and removing protection tubes that are no longer needed from established trees.
